41st Draft [Voice]

Settling back into my regular routine seems to be more of a problem then I had anticipated. I'd planned to write at Cafe Juliet today and yet every time I open a blank page my mind goes blank.

It must be recent events: the harpies, the barrier falling, the animals missing, Kate's return home and those odd City tour guides.

Perhaps once things return to normal in the City my routine will return to normal.

What are you currently writing on?

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to continue the next Nikki Heat novel. I seem to have lost my inspiration. [You know Nikki Heat's thinly veiled model--Kate Beckett]

[There's a pause as Cameron tries to figure out how not to point out that of course he's lost his inspiration, Kate is gone.]

Have you tried writing something else?

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-04-20 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
[It's nice that she understands.]

Alexis and I are discussing a genre change right now actually: Supernatural mystery.

[identity profile] heelsandlaw.livejournal.com 2011-04-20 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
That could be interesting.

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's something the City is conducive to at least.

I'm not sure the City is ever normal, Dad. You know what you should write about? A coffee barista who moonlights as a detective. Or maybe since the City has opened our eyes to all the supernatural stuff first hand, you could try that new genre. Supernatural mystery novels.

A change in genres could be fitting. The coffee barista could moonlight as a detective specializing in the supernatural.

Exactly! I'd read it. And just think of all the fodder for good stories you have here in the City.

Good point.

...I'm not entirely sure I could write about a barista at a coffee shop though...

Some of the characters in my books get involved in...adult situations. I can't write a character based off my daughter like that.

You could be a sister though. Or a best friend. Or a daughter.

[He's never written Alexis into his books for privacy reasons]

You're a writer?

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-04-20 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I am. I write crime mystery novels but I'm considering a genre change at the moment.

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-04-20 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
One of my favourite genres.

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-04-22 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
It must take a lot of brain to figure out the plot before writing it.

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
So much brain. I'm a very bright person. [He chuckles with that] Or at least moderately so. Many of my plots are inspired by my research and by things that actually happen. I like to put truth in my fiction.

Richard Castle and my mother would be horrified at my lack of manners. You are?

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-04-23 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Somewhere with his ego?]

Mae Crawford. I know a Castle here - Alexis. Is she with you?

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Really! How fortunate that you're both here together.

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
For my sake, I agree with you. However, I often feel guilty about that. Our world was safer or at least I could take measures to make sure she was a bit more safe. Here, there's little I can do most days.

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[A caring father - she wonders how that works.] Your presence is going to be more than enough, in the long run. A parent who cares is everything a kid needs.

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Poor thing] She's a great kid. Its easy to be there for her.

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
She is pretty awesome, what with the baking.

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
She's brilliant, makes a great cup of coffee and beautiful too.

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
And good coffee, too - well now I'm definitely glad I've met her.

[identity profile] cuffmeonce.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
She works at Cafe Juliet. Tell her I sent you.

[identity profile] brobeforehos.livejournal.com 2011-05-03 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
I will!
